Jessie's Heart
by Jessie Buehlmann

This will take a while to load, and it's rather hard to explain.  The spokes are 1/4" flat reed, 20" long, and there are 10 of them.  You fold them all in half.  It's a bit like making a danish paper or felt heart.

Once they are bent in half, you weave them, 5 on each of two sides to form the straight sides of the heart.  This forms a pouch with measuring 2.5" x 2.5" with spokes sticking out on two edges, where the round part of the heart will be.

Taking a length of 1/4" flat reed, weave over/under all the spokes on one edge of the heart then keep weaving around the backside of the heart and bring it around to overlap on the front for 4 spokes.  Turn the heart over and begin a second row above the first, beginning and ending on the opposite side.  Do the same for the other edge of the heart.

Then you simply open up the pouches formed by the 2 open edges and tuck the spokes into the spokes directly across from them.  i.e.  The middle spokes will tuck into each other, and the spoke on the front left will tuck into the back right, the far front right will tuck into the far back left, and so on until all spokes are tucked.  You may have to cut a few spokes shorter to make the heart have the curve you desire.  Good luck!
