Napkin Heart Basket Materials needed: 3/4 flat spokes or 5/8 (see note below) Base: 7 1/4 x 7 1/4 Cut 13 spokes 20 x 3/4 flat Mark spokes and handle in center on rough side. Lay out three spokes horizontally about 1 1/2 apart, aligning centers. Lay handle over center marks vertically with center mark over center spoke. Lay out four spokes horizontally on top of handle with outside spokes touching sides of d handle and remaining spokes spaced evenly between the first set of spokes. Weave three spokes vertically on each side of handle. True base to 7 1/4 x 7 1/4. Twine once around base with #2 round reed. Upsett spokes. Row1- Weave outside handle 1/4 flat/oval. Keep
sides upright and corners square. Cut and tuck. Rim with 3/8 flat/oval outer, 3/8 flat inner, #2 seagrass filler, and 11/64flat/oval lasher. X the handles. Put dowel through hole in handle top and attach heart weight. Hint: Sand the handle and heart parts well before weaving. If you want to stain the basket, keep the rod and heart separate while you apply the finish. Asemble after you have stained the heart weight or painted as desired. Note: When you use 3/4 spokes the base will provide a more closed base. The weaving will be quite tight between the spokes. You can avoid this by using 5/8 spokes and having a more open base, or using flat 1/4 weavers in place of flat/oval. You could twill weave (over2, under 2) the sides for a different look and twill doesnt require as wide a space between spokes. I had no problem using the 3/4 and packing the flat/oval rows, but it is a close fit. Handles available at Basket Class for $7. Home | IBWG
